Calm games your pupils can play on their own terms

Pebble is a set of calm, adjustable games for SEND classrooms, from EYFS to KS4. Choose a game, set it up for your class, and put it on the interactive whiteboard. No log-in for pupils, and nothing about them is saved.

Games by skill area

Literacy & communication

• Letter Garden: A picture appears and the word is read aloud.
• Where Is It?: Position words such as in, on and under are one of the most common speech and language targets.
• Sort It: Everyday things appear one at a time, and pupils put each one in the right group: food, animals, clothes or toys.
• Rhyme Time: Rhyme is an early step towards phonics.
• Build the Word: Pupils see a picture and hear a word, such as dog, then build it letter by letter in three sound boxes, from left to right.
• Odd One Out: Four pictures: three from one group and one that doesn’t belong, such as an apple, a banana, an orange and a sock.
• Step by Step: Put everyday routines in order: washing hands, making a sandwich and brushing teeth.
• Alien Words: A word appears in the middle of the screen.

Number & thinking

• Shape Match: Pupils see one shape named at the top and pick the matching shape from three big choices.
• Shape Names: Find, name and count the sides of 2D shapes (circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon) and 3D shapes (cube, cuboid, sphere, cylinder, cone, pyramid).
• Count the Ducks: Ducks swim onto the pond one at a time.
• Big, Bigger, Biggest: Three or four of the same thing in different sizes, all standing on the same line so they are fair to compare.
• More or Fewer: Two groups of the same objects.
• Make Ten: A ten frame with some counters in it.
• Clock Time: A big, clear clock face.
• Pattern Train: Each carriage carries a shape or a fruit in a repeating pattern, and the last carriage is empty.
• Corner Shop: A calm shop counter with real UK coins.

Emotions & social

• Feelings Faces: Pupils look at a friendly face and choose how they feel, or hear a feeling and find the face that shows it.
• Pairs: A calm memory game.
• What Can I Do?: A friend has a big feeling: cross, sad, worried, scared or tired.
• Safe Crossing: Pupils look at a pelican crossing and decide: wait, or cross? The red man stands still and the green man walks, so the signals differ by shape as well as colour.

Senses & listening

• Bubble Pop: Soft bubbles float gently up and wait.
• Draw a Shape: Pupils trace big pre-writing patterns with a finger, pen or the mouse: a line down, a line across, a cross, a circle, then a zigzag, waves and a square.
• Letter Tracing: Pupils trace lower-case letters with a finger, and the letter colours in as they go.
• Calm Breathing: A soft shape slowly grows as you breathe in and shrinks as you breathe out, with gentle counting.
