Safe Crossing

Pupils look at a pelican crossing and decide: wait, or cross? The red man stands still and the green man walks, so the signals differ by shape as well as colour. The harder scenes include a car still coming on the green man, and the red man with an empty road. Every answer comes with the reason, using the Green Cross Code words stop, look and listen.

For KS1–KS3. About 5 minutes. Emotions & social. Low sensory, no reading needed, works without sound.

What pupils practise

• Know that the red man means wait and the green man means cross
• Keep looking and listening, even on the green man
• Wait on the red man, even when the road looks clear

• Practise “stop, look, listen, think” with actions before playing.
• Talk about why each answer is safe or not safe.
• Link it to real walks: find the crossing nearest to school.
• Use the harder scenes once pupils always wait on the red man.
